On his 38th birthday, Ranveer Singh reflected on an old interview where he was questioned about a revelation made by his now-wife, Deepika Padukone.

During a 2015 interview, Deepika Padukone’s statement was brought to Ranveer’s attention. She had revealed that he wanted people to refer to him as Bajirao on the sets of Bajirao Mastani. When asked if this request helped him, Ranveer acknowledged that it was indeed a ‘bizarre request’, but it played a significant role in his portrayal.
The method Acting
Ranveer Singh’s commitment to his character went beyond superficial appearances. In the 2015 interview with Rediff, he explained, “It’s a very difficult process to get into such a distinct character. I altered my appearance, physique, voice, and accent… With all the scars, eye make-up, earrings, angrakhas, and layers upon layers, I would arrive on set, go to my makeup area, and take about two hours to get ready. I once even wore a makeshift mustache.
What made him Dishearten
Before the shooting, I would get into character entirely by changing, practising my voice, and working out my body. Ranveer was discouraged when an assistant director announced his arrival on set as “Ranveer walking in” after spending a lot of time and effort becoming Bajirao.
“Mere saare kaam pe unhone paani pher diya,” he said in fury, “you have ruined all my hard work.” Why do you keep reminding me that I’m Ranveer when I’ve worked so hard to shed that identity and adopt this unique persona? Ranveer stressed the success of his proposal while conceding its oddity in terms of aiding him in upholding his moral integrity.

Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone have shared the screen in several films. Their romantic drama Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela marked their first collaboration almost a decade ago.
